Three Sings Coming Up in February and March!

Come Sing with Friends!

Singing is breaking out all over in Baltimore Yearly Meeting!  Three Quaker sings will be happening at different meetings over the next few months:

Come for all or any part of any day (or all!).
Bring your songbooks, if you have them.

No Special Skills needed!
just a desire to become part of a singing community for an afternoon!

Two years ago, Ruth Fitz of York Meeting shared a leading to help more singing happen in the Yearly Meeting.  With a little help from a few Friends and the support of the Yearly Meeting Advancement & Outreach Committee, four sings have been held, Spring and Fall, since then at various Meetings.  Ruth has also led singing at the Women’s and Spiritual Formation retreats and at annual session.  She has a special interest in leading Friends in singing in harmony.  With help from other songleaders as well, the sings have had a mix of hymn, chant, folk (a la Rise Up Singing), and even a taste of shape-note and choral singing.  For the first time in November, we had some Young Friends lead a session of camp songs!  (Singing is one of the best intergenerational opportunities going!)

Your Meeting can host a sing too!  Our small group of organizers has collected a mailing list of attenders, a list of proven songleaders, and has learned a few tricks about getting the word out.  If your Meeting would like to have a sing, we can help.  Use our contact page to find out more or get on our email list.
